Punkaharju – pretty as a picture
Punkaharju ridge has entranced its visitors for centuries. Tsar Alexander I of Russia was also an admirer of the ridge, and in 1803 he decreed that the area should be protected. Consequently, the pure pristine beauty of the ridge has survived until the present. You can reach the ridge by bus, train or car, but perhaps the best way of soaking up the spectacular scenery is by bike or on foot.
