A rowing municipality in the middle of Saimaa 

Sulkava, a peaceful municipality well-known for its rowing competition, located on the shores of Lake Saimaa, has many events and magnificent nature. There are events for fishermen, boaters, cyclists, families with children, culture friends as well as dance lovers.

Rowing competition
During the second weekend in July one of the biggest sports events in Finland, Sulkava Rowing Festival, will take place.  Currently, almost all of the boats taking part in the Suursoutu event have been built either of wood or plywood. But for instance in rowing tours, a free choice of boat type is allowed. In the Sulkavan Suursoudut different kinds of competitions are to be found according to the competitor´s age and sex as well as physical ability.
